The Red Mass, a yearly diocesan tradition since 1955, is usually celebrated the day after the opening of the state legislative session. Its purpose is to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and wisdom for Hawaii’s government officials. Red is the color of vestments used for a Mass of the Holy Spirit.
